My Homestead
On my half-acre lot in Western Massachusetts, I manage a small vegetable garden and tend to a variety of fruit trees (pears, plums, peaches), raspberries, and grapes. I employ the latest organic and low-spray techniques to control pests, as well as season-extending devices such as hoop houses and floating row covers. I harvest rainwater in barrels and use a drip irrigation system to reduce water use. Each year I put up various varieties of jams, pickles, and salsas, and ferment still more pickles and sauerkraut. We are never lacking for condiments.
